Once, people came from abroad because someone's daughter had been taken—she was kidnapped. They didn't know where she was. No one needed to explain it to him; he already knew. He told them, "She is in such-and-such a building, on such-and-such a floor."

How careful a person must be to guard his eyes! All of a person’s holiness, as the Zohar says, depends entirely on his eyes.

If he does not guard his eyes, an angel breaks his eyes—may Hashem save us—and breaks them so that he cannot see. He cannot see in the Torah, he cannot understand; he studies, but the eyes of his intellect become blocked.

If these physical eyes stray, the spiritual eyes stray as well, and he makes mistakes. Why? Because of his eyes. It is written: "And you shall not follow after your heart and after your eyes."

How can a person just walk around in the streets? I used to visit Baba Meir Abuhatzeira—the father of Rabbi Elazar, the father of Rabbi David, and the son of Baba Sali. I would go to his house and couldn't leave. He was holy and awe-inspiring; he guarded his eyes so carefully.

When we would lead him out of the house to go pray at the synagogue, he would bring a black cloth, and they would tie it over his eyes before he stepped outside. They tied his eyes with a black cloth! And where was he going, after all? A car came to pick him up right away. Yet until he was seated at the Tevah (reader's podium) in the synagogue, he would not open his eyes.

What holiness, what prayer!

They said to him, "Honorable Rabbi, police officers were there and didn't find her."

He replied, "Tell them to go up again! They cannot see; they don't have eyes to see. Tell them to go up—she is there!"

He could see from here! He didn't need... Why? Holiness! The holiness of the eyes grants... it works wonders! That is what the holiness of guarding one's eyes bestows.
