The Great Virtue of One Who Is Pleasant to People

Rabbi Yosef Chaim says: It is written, "As water reflects a face to a face, so is the heart of man to man". For according to how a person relates to others, so they relate to him from Heaven. Be pleasant to creations, with good character traits; the outcomes and consequences will also be pleasant toward you. You shall find favor and good understanding. A person needs—and this is also one of the greatest things—to be pleasant to creations.
Even if a person did evil to him, no, he should be pleasant. He should repay with good, do good; he always, from his side, must do the best. [If] someone did evil to him, place it in His hands, it is from Heaven. There he gave him a rule: You, from your side, always purify your deeds, walk in the way of Hashem.
Sometimes, a person wants to be pleasant to creations, but he is not pleasant to Heaven. If he makes it pleasant for him, it is not in the way of Hashem; he wants something against the Halakha, namely his friend, what shall he do?
The Rosh Yeshiva would say to us: "These are the generations of Noah, Noah" — there must be pleasantness to Heaven and pleasantness to creations.
Now when it comes to a matter like this. "With the L-rd did Noah go". Whatever the Holy One, blessed be He, says, do. Walk in the way of Hashem, do not do [anything] against [Him].
