"The moment a person weeps and sheds tears, they can break through the walls between us and our Father in Heaven, yes, for the gates of tears are never locked.'"

The Secret of the Tears by Rabbi Benayahu Shmueli, Head of the Yeshiva
11 Tishrei 5787
"There was once a city that sat by the sea. The sea waves were deadly, sometimes passing through, even flooding half the city. What was there to do? The king told them: 'I will give a lot of money, let us build a dam that will not be able to be crossed by water.' They built a large dam and made it out of special wood, strong woods and trees.
After a few days, the dam collapsed.

What happened? The king asked him, 'How?'
They tell him: 'The water, it is salty, and it penetrates the wood, and it softens it slowly, slowly, slowly from this part, into the wall and then the wall came down.' So he says: 'Our tears are salty. The moment a person weeps and sheds tears, they can break through the walls between us and our Father in Heaven, yes, for the gates of tears are never locked.'"
