In a single moment, the evil inclination can entice a person, lead him backward, and lower him down to the dust. In a single moment! Even if the king greets him – he must not stop. Keep pleading and asking of the Holy One, Blessed be He. And conversely as well: even if a snake is wound around his heel – a snake swallowed him, reaching from head to heel.

A father saw that he was going to die.

He commanded his children and gave them a ring.

He said to his son: "Listen, I want you to pay attention to me.

I am giving you a ring on which it is written: 'This too shall pass.'

Even when you are at the highest peak,

when everything in the world is going best for you –

do not grow arrogant,

do not cast off your obligations.

Know that this too shall pass. The good times pass.

What will happen afterward? Do not abandon your faith/obligations.

Always 'Hope in Hashem; be strong and let your heart take courage, and hope in Hashem.'

Even if things are bad for you, difficult for you, not going well –

look at the ring: 'This too shall pass.'

One must always know: this – this too shall pass."

There is a Mishnah in Berakhot, Chapter 5, that states:

"Even if the king greets him..."

If the king greets him – he must not interrupt [his prayer].

Rabbi Shlomo HaKohen of Radomsk, author of the book Tiferet Shlomo, explained this allegorically:

Sometimes a person experiences "the king greets him." He reaches elevated heights! Great heights!

From Heaven they inquire after his wellbeing: "How are you? What is happening with you? How is your honor?"

He has reached lofty levels.

The President of America calls him, the whole world speaks with him and needs him.

He must not think: "They inquire about me from Heaven because I am already at the top of the peak...

Let's think: 'We are done, no need to pray that the Holy One, Blessed be He, will help, no need every day to conduct self-reckoning, to repent...'"

He should not think it is over.

In a single moment, the evil inclination can entice a person, lead him backward, and lower him down to the dust. In a single moment!

Even if the king greets him – he must not stop. Keep pleading and asking of the Holy One, Blessed be He.

And conversely as well: even if a snake is wound around his heel – a snake swallowed him, reaching from head to heel.

That is to say, all the impure forces (Klipot), the Sitra Achra (other side), he finds himself in an exceedingly impure place, at the peak of impurity, deep down...

Do not say, do not despair, saying: "It's over, enough, there is nothing left to do."

No!

He must not stop! Do not stop, keep going, keep going. It will pass.

You will succeed. You will repent, and the Holy One, Blessed be He, erases everything.

Do not think "there is nothing to do." There is what to do. There is.
