Two Friends That Became Very Rich
By Our Teacher, Our Rabbi, Head of the Yeshiva, Rabbi Benayahu Shmueli, Shlit"a

You know the story that is told: In the days of the holy Chida, a certain Jew heard a lecture in which it was said: "Whoever honors his wife will become a millionaire."
He was a Flooring Installer, laying straight floors so that a person could live there. He heard "Okiro lenasheichu" (Honor your wives) — respect your wife. He would come home and speak to her nicely. He would earn 1,000 shekels a day, give her 100 shekels, give her gifts, and buy his wife things worth 500 shekels. He would give her the money to buy whatever she needed. He kept earning and giving, earning and giving, and the Holy One, blessed be He, blessed him. Slowly, he became a major contractor, a millionaire.
He had a friend who saw that he too had become a millionaire. He said to him, "Tell me, how did you become a millionaire?" They spoke together. He said, "You tell me, how?" The friend replied, "I heard a lecture: 'Honor your wife and you will be rich.' I started honoring my wife, earning and giving to her, speaking to her nicely, and I became a millionaire."
The first man said, "I heard a lecture: 'Tithe so that you may grow rich.' Whoever gives tithes becomes a millionaire. So I started giving tithes. I earned 1,000, and I gave 100 to the Nahar Shalom Yeshiva. I earned 10,000, and I gave 1,000 shekels. Slowly, Hashem blessed me."
He said to him "my Torah sage—the place where I heard his lecture is better than yours!" The friend asked, "Why?" He said, "I took money out of this pocket and put it in the other pocket; all the money stayed within the family, and I became a millionaire. As for you, you took it out, gave it to Nahar Shalom, gave it to Porat Yosef, gave it to other yeshivas—it didn't stay with you!"
He said to him, "Honorable Rabbi," I will go to the sage who gave the lecture and discuss this matter with him.
The sage said to him, "Listen, I merited you both in this world and the world to come. He (the other sage) gave your friend only this world, but what about the world to come? Where are the mitzvot, good deeds, charity, and supporting the Torah?" The sage replied, "You need both." Therefore, a person who wants to be rich, what should he do? The Chida explains this on the verse: "Do not fear when a man becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases" — "his house" refers to his wife. For when he dies, he will not take everything, and his glory will not descend after him. Rather, a person must do both: give to yeshivas and also honor his wife.
