Order of Kaparot Redemption with Money
For the sake of the unification of the Holy One, blessed be He, and His Shechinah, in fear and love, and in love and fear, to unify the Name Yod-Hei-Vav-Hei (the tetragrammaton) in a complete unification, in the name of all Israel:
I come now to perform atonement for myself and for my household through this money, at this auspicious time that is now revealed. I accept upon myself the positive commandment of repentance, regret all my actions, and confess them: I have sinned, I have committed iniquity, I have rebelled before You.
May it be Your will that You forgive me for all that I have sinned, committed iniquity, and rebelled before You. In the merit of this redemption, may all harsh judgments against me and my household be sweetened, and may You annul all harsh and bad decrees from us, decreeing upon us good decrees, salvations, and consolations and we will merit a good and blessed year, us and all the members of our household, Amen.
"And may the pleasantness of the Master our L-rd be upon us, and the work of our hands for us, and the work of our hands establish it."
"The sons of man who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, bound in affliction and iron."
"He releases them from darkness and the shadow of death,
and breaks their bonds asunder."
"Fools, because of their rebellious way, and because of their iniquities, were afflicted."
"Their soul despises all food, and they reach the portals of death."
"Then they cried to Hashem in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses."
"He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their abysses."
"They shall give thanks to Hashem for His Kindness, and for His Wonders to the children of men."
"If there be for him an angel, an advocate for merit, one among a thousand, to declare for a man his uprightness;"
"Then He is gracious unto him, and He says: 'Redeem him from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom.'"

About Kaparot Redemption
Kaparot redemption is an ancient Jewish custom dating back to the period of the Geonim. The mitzvah of Kaparot is observed on the day before (Erev) Yom Kippur, and performing it with money is a widely honored custom.
For Yom Kippur, atonement is given on behalf of each person, reciting three times: "This money is my exchange, my substitute, my atonement; this money shall go to charity, and I shall enter into a good, long, and peaceful life" (if possible, wave the money over the head). After performing the ceremony, the money must be passed to worthy poor individuals or to institutions of Torah and kindness.
At our institution, the Nahar Shalom Kabbalah Yeshiva under the leadership of our teacher Rabbi Benayahu Shmueli, shlit"a, funds are collected and distributed to the needy ahead of the holiday of Sukkot. Additionally, chicken Kaparot is performed during the early morning hours (Ashmorat HaBoker) on behalf of everyone who gave a monetary redemption—in accordance with the teachings of the holy Holy Ari (Rabbi Isaac Luria), that at this hour the atonement should be performed with a rooster and slaughtered to sweeten the strict judgments (Gevurot).
- A Superb Way: Several halakhic authorities noted that giving Kaparot money directly to charity is a superb way (for Kaparot)—100% of the money reaches the poor directly, while avoiding concerns regarding rushed ritual slaughter on Erev Yom Kippur.
- According to Kabbalah: The Holy Ari revealed the deep essence of this custom—sweetening the harsh judgments at the threshold of the holy day.
- 100% Charity: All Kaparot funds are distributed as charity for Torah and Kindness—to the poor, needy families, the daily soup kitchen, and supporting the Torah scholars at the yeshiva—"And charity saves from death."
