To Be As A Head And Not As A Tail - This Is The Secret Of The Fish

"The fish is always swimming forward; it cannot go in reverse. It cannot move backward. Unlike other animals—other animals can move backward. The fish has no backward, only forward. Also, other animals can turn their head toward the back of their body. Therefore we say, 'May we be as the head and not as the tail.' What does this mean? That at all times we should be focused onward in the service of Hashem. Don't think about what has passed. What has passed is gone! Don't look back or sink into thoughts of the past, so as not to fall into sadness or melancholy. Look from here on forward! One needs to do soul-searching, but mainly—for progress. To say: 'Alright, now let's move forward.' So that is the point of being 'as the head and not as the tail.' We should always consider: the head represents spirituality, and the body represents materiality. One must always focus on spirituality, not on materiality. If one keeps thinking and reflecting, in Heaven they understand what he needs, and he will have it—though not necessarily what he chases after. From Heaven, they will give him what he needs."
